G4 is an energetic group of Manitoba artists who capture the iconic Canadian landscapes found in that province through plein air paintings, drawings, three-dimensional works, snow sculptures, and poetry.

Several in this talented group of friends have a formal background in graphic design, some have a gift for sculpting snow, and all enjoy creating their art in the outdoors. With a fervent love of nature and canoeing, they all have been profoundly influenced by the rich and rugged tapestries of prairie forests and Boreal landscapes of the Precambrian Shield.

Plein air painting is not without challenges when combined with wilderness canoe tripping and the vagaries of weather! Since 1996, perseverance, perhaps sometimes tinged with stubbornness, has resulted in many inspired canvases. Their collection of works grew with each stroke of the paddle, and several group exhibitions have been mounted.

Success as a snow sculpting team began with a prizewinning entry in a 1990 amateur competition. Since that time, G4 has been among the principal sculptors engaged by the renowned Festival du Voyageur each year, designing and carving the massive park entrance piece.

G4 includes Jim Alexander, Barry Bonham, David MacNair, Dave Maddocks, and Susanne Vande Vyvere. Their ephemeral snow sculptures, other three dimensional works, drawings, poetry, and plein air paintings are among the artistic expressions to be appreciated on the pages of this website. Artist biographies accompany the galleries of their works.
